Profiles and portraits within the Cyberdefence Centre


Situation Analyst

Situation analysts ensure the gathering, collection, optimisation, analysis and reporting of cyberdefence-related information to notify government authorities of the status of the threat and the situation regarding cyberdefence operations. They also study the technical modus operandi of attackers in order to understand, detect and anticipate their activities.
With five years of higher education or solid equivalent experience in the field, situation analysts have a very sound technical knowledge of the different types of cyber-attacks and excellent analytical, summarising and writing skills.

Situation Analyst profiles:

  • Françoise, 25, holds a Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity and joined ANSSI in 2013 after first working for a telecommunications operator and then in a strategic intelligence consultancy where she developed skills in cyber-threat analysis and intrusion testing.
  • Pascale, 29, holds a Technical University Diploma (DUT) in computing and a Level 2 Master’s degree in economic intelligence and strategic communications. She joined ANSSI in 2014 after beginning a military career as an intelligence analyst, prior to working as an analyst at a strategic defence intelligence consultancy.
  • Coralie, 26, holds a Level 2 Master’s degree in geo-economics and strategic intelligence and joined ANSSI in 2013 after first working as head of strategic intelligence in a large company specialising in cyberdefence.

 

Operational Monitor

Operational monitors are tasked with monitoring the operational communications resources of the Cyberdefence Centre with its various national and international correspondents, breaking news, the Internet and the technical supervision tools entrusted to it in order to alert government authorities and potential victims in the event of threats or attacks targeting France’s critical network and information systems. They are active round the clock, seven days a week, working on a tailored shift system.
With three years of higher education or equivalent experience in the field, operational monitors have a good knowledge of the various different types of cyber-attack and proven analytical, summarising and writing skills in both French and English.

Operational Monitor Profiles:

  • Camille, age 29, holds a Level 1 Master’s degree in computing and a Level 2 Master’s degree in technological monitoring. She joined ANSSI in 2014 after working initially as a monitoring manager for industrial companies in the energy and aerospace sectors.
  • Jeanne, 25, holds a Level 2 Master’s degree in political science and joined ANSSI in 2014 after working initially in a media monitoring and alert unit within the Ministry of Defence.
  • Pascal, 32, holds a Bachelor’s degree in information management and joined ANSSI in 2014 after working initially as a monitoring manager within a number of humanitarian medical research and assistance organisations.

 

Supervision monitor

Supervision monitors analyse and interpret technical alerts returned by the cyber-attack detection probes deployed by ANSSI on sensitive government networks, in order to alert the technical teams responsible for assessing and remedying any suspected compromise or attempted compromise. In this capacity, they participate in ANSSI’s round the clock, seven days a week monitoring of activities, working on a tailored shift system.
With three years of higher education or equivalent experience in the field, supervision monitors have a sound knowledge of the various types of cyber-attack and proven skills in the technical analysis of communications protocols and network systems together with good summarising skills.

Supervision Monitor profiles:

  • Grégory, 32, a non-commissioned army officer specialising in information and telecommunications systems, joined ANSSI in 2012.
  • Hervé, 29, holds a Technical University Diploma (DUT) in computing, and began his career as an IT support technician in the transport sector. He joined ANSSI in 2014.
  • Louis, 25, holds an IT engineering diploma with a specialisation in network and telecommunications, and joined ANSSI as a supervision monitor in 2014 after finishing his studies.

 

Cyberdefence operations manager

Cyberdefence operations managers prepare and run governmental operations seeking out and dealing with cyber-attacks targeting national critical importance systems, by directing the various technical elements assigned to them in liaison with potential victims and the ANSSI national and international operational partners that they coordinate.
With five years of higher education or solid equivalent experience in the field, cyberdefence operations managers possess a sound technical knowledge of the various forms of cyber-attack, excellent analytical, summarising, writing, organisational, managerial and communication skills, and a genuine flair for crisis management.

Cyperdefence Operations Manager profiles:

  • Franck, 48, holds a specialist Master’s degree in cybersecurity and a Vocational Level 2 Master’s degree in economic intelligence. He began his career as a systems and networks specialist officer within the Ministry of Defence and went on to become the cybersecurity manager for a government ministry and then a large private-sector industrial company before joining ANSSI in 2014.
  • Paul, 39, holds an IT engineering diploma and a Level 2 Master’s degree in economic intelligence. He began his career as a specialist IT officer within the Ministry of Defence before joining ANSSI as a cyber-risk management specialist prior to his appointment as a cyberdefence operations manager under a civilian contract in 2014.
  • Marc, 36, a Ministry of Defence senior officer, holds a military engineering diploma and joined ANSSI in 2014 after working as head of NATO’s cybersecurity supervision and control centre.

 

Digital investigation analyst

Digital investigation analysts collect, characterise and analyse the technical elements (traces of activity, malware, vulnerabilities used) of a cyber-attack in order to arrive at an understanding of the modus operandi and rectify the attack. In this capacity, they participate in the handling of cyberdefence operations carried out by ANSSI. They also participate in the design and creation of technical investigation tools.
With five years of high education or solid experience in the field, digital investigation analysts have a thorough technical knowledge of the various forms of cyber-attack, proven system and network technical analysis skills and good summarising and writing skills.

Digital Investigation Analyst profiles:

  • Kevin, 29, holds a diploma in IT and automation engineering and began his career in an operational security centre, for a large French company. He went on to join ANSSI in 2013 as a network investigation expert.
  • Ludovic, 26, holds an IT engineering diploma and joined ANSSI as a malware analyst following a six-month end-of-studies internship in the Operational Centre incident response team in 2014.
  • Franck, 36, holds a Master’s degree in Law and worked as a police officer within a specialist cybercrime service prior to joining ANSSI in 2013.

 

Vulnerabilities and malware analyst

Vulnerabilities and malware analysts identify and analyse the technical functioning of vulnerabilities within systems and their operating codes, in order to propose and make optimal use of the methods used to detect and protect against exploitation. In this capacity, they participate in the handling of cyberdefence operations carried out by ANSSI.
With five years of higher education or solid equivalent experience in the field, vulnerabilities and malware analysts have a thorough technical knowledge of the various forms of cyber-attack and malware functioning, proven system and network vulnerabilities analysis skills and good summarising and writing skills.

Vulnerabilities and Malware Analyst profiles:

  • Gilles, 29, holds a Master’s in cybersecurity and began his career as a network and security engineer within a major French industrial company. He then worked as a security consultant within an alert and incident handling centre. He joined ANSSI in 2014.
  • Yves, 27, holds a specialist Master’s degree in cybersecurity. He began his career in a security research and development team within a major French company. He joined ANSSI as a code and vulnerabilities analysis expert in 2015.
  • Yann, 30, a design and manufacturing engineer within the Ministry of Defence, began his career as a member of an IT project team. He joined ANSSI in 2014.

 

Cybersecurity auditor

Cybersecurity auditors participate in the audits and inspections carried out by ANSSI. They analyse vulnerabilities detected during the technical audits, intrusion tests and architecture surveys that they carry out, so as to propose technical and organisational protective measures. In this capacity, they participate in the handling of cyberdefence operations carried out by ANSSI.
With five years of higher education and solid experience in the field, cybersecurity auditors have a thorough technical knowledge of the various forms of cyber-attack and exploitation of network and system vulnerabilities, and very good summarising and writing skills.

Cybersecurity Auditor profiles:

  • Fabien, 37, holds an electronic engineering diploma and began his career as a security consultant before going on to work as an auditor in a range of service-sector companies. He joined ANSSI in 2011 as an auditor specialising in industrial systems.
  • Jacques, 32, holds an IT engineering diploma and began his career as a system and network administrator in the banking sector. He went on to become an auditor, working in a number of service sector companies. He joined ANSSI in 2012.
  • Guy, age 27, holds a specialist Master’s degree in cybersecurity and joined the auditing bureau following a number of internships with ANSSI whilst completing his studies.
