French CERT

Role and mission

The priority tasks of each CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) are as follows:

  • centralisation of assistance requests following security incidents (attacks) on network and information systems: logging of requests, analysis of symptoms and incident correlation in certain cases;
  • cyber-attack alert and response handling: technical analysis, exchange of information with other CERT, and contributing to specific technical studies;
  • creation and maintenance of a vulnerabilities database;
  • prevention, through the dissemination of information on precautions to be taken in order to minimise the risk, or worse still, the potential consequences of an incident;
  • potential coordination with other entities (outside the field of action): network competence centres, operators and Internet service providers and other national and international CERT.

The acronym CSIRT, standing for Computer Security Incident Response Team is also frequently used.
