The French Internet Resilience Observatory

Established under the auspices of ANSSI in 2011, the purpose of this observatory is to improve knowledge of the French Internet by studying the technologies critical to its proper functioning.

Until recently, despite the importance given to this issue, there had not been a body tasked with studying the risks of Internet failure at national level.

At the technical level, the resilience and robustness of the Internet can be characterised by a set of measurable technical indicators. Certain of these are taken directly from engineering rules, termed best practices, namely defined by the community.

One of the objectives of the observatory is to increase the collective understanding of the French Internet in order to arrive at a coherent view of it that is as complete as possible. This will allow interactions and dependencies between the various actors concerned to be identified.

The mission of the French Internet Resilience Observatory is also to identify and measure relevant and representative indicators of resilience, and to make their results public. Furthermore, it involves French Internet actors in its activities in order to increase their efficacy and encourage full adoption of best practices.
