SPARTA – A Cybersecurity Competence Network to coordinate research, innovation and training within the European Union

SPARTA is a new Cybersecurity Competence Network supported by Europe’s H2020 Program. It aims to coordinate and develop the implementation of high-level research and innovation in digital security, in order to strengthen the strategic autonomy of the European Union. The SPARTA consortium assembles, for the first time, 44 actors from more than 14 Member States, bringing together the expertise of different kind of stakeholders, be they research institutes, private organisations or national authorities, including ANSSI.

The development of scientific, industrial and R&D capacities enabling the European Union to develop a response to its needs in terms of key technologies and services is one of the pillars of European strategic autonomy.

SPARTA is supported by Europe’s H2020 program, with the objective to develop and implement top-tier research and to design and test an efficient mechanism at european level for research governance and coordination.
Strongly guided by concrete challenges forming an ambitious Cybersecurity research & innovation roadmap, SPARTA will setup unique collaboration means, leading the way in building transformative capabilities and forming a world-leading “Competence Network” across the EU.

The SPARTA consortium, led by CEA, assembles a balanced set of 44 actors (among which 6 French partners) from 14 EU member States at the crossroad between scientific excellence, technological innovation, and social sciences in cybersecurity. Together, along with SPARTA Associates, they aim to think over the way cybersecurity research, innovation, and training are performed in Europe, from foundations to applications, in academia and industry.

As the French national cybersecurity agency, ANSSI will mainly contribute to the elaboration of the R&D roadmap of this novel Cybersecurity Competence Network, as well as contribute to the impact study of the technical programs on the certification capacities and to the elaboration of the training program. SPARTA has the capacity to support ANSSI’s missions at the European level, especially regarding the coordination of national and European R&D efforts in Europe, in the perspective of the establishment of the future European Cybersecurity Research and Competence Centre, keeping the European strategic autonomy as the overall objective in view.
